We took our first international trip to Nigeria to give back to the birth place of our founder, Jeremiah Attaochu. It was a huge success. Nigeria alone has the largest population of people with Sickle Cell Disease in the world, research has shown over 150,000 babies are born with this condition every year. Our initiative took us to Ibadan, Nigeria, where we organized an end of year event at the University College Hospital Ibadan. Over 120 people, community leaders, government officials and both sickle cell warriors and their caregivers were present. A government representative from the Ministry of Health was present at the event and pledged the support of the state government in anything GHSCF brings to the table.

This is where we need you. We have made a commitment to the hospital as well as the local government of Oyo State, Ibadan, Nigeria to adopt some of the warriors in attendance through a vetting process based on the level of their needs. We’ve also promised to contribute funds to help renovate the completely rundown day center which currently has only three beds. There is a great need for assistance. A lot of the warriors don’t even have 1 US dollar (360 Naira) to pay for registration fees when they arrive at the hospital on emergency or for a checkup. To help us meet their needs, please consider donating to support this cause.
